8 Victims of Illegal Forex Trading Investments Lose IDR 2 4 Billion

Eight victims of binary options trading or binary options trading reported the Binomo trading application and its affiliates to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Investigation Agency (Bareskrim).
The lawyer for the complainant, Finsensius Mendorfa, said the losses for each of his clients reached tens to hundreds of millions of rupiah. If the total loss of eight clients reached Rp. 2.4 billion. “That’s only eight people, yes, of which hundreds of other people will enter our database later during the investigation process and we will report it,” said Finsensius.

Finsensius said that apart from reporting the Binomo application, his party also reported the owners and a number of affiliates and influencers who were involved in promoting the binary options trading platform. However, he did not reveal further who the figure of the influencer or affiliate was. He only said that the investigator had received the report with the number STTL/29/II/2022/BARESKRIM. “What is certain is that there is more than one person and there is a public figure who is going viral,” he said. Finsensius said there were six articles that were suspected against the platform and the affiliates.

These include Article 27 paragraph (2) of the Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE) regarding online gambling, Article 28 paragraph (1) of the ITE Law concerning fake news that harms consumers, and Article 378 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 regarding fraud. Then Article 3, Article 5, and Article 10 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning the Crime of Money Laundering (TPPU). Furthermore, Finsensius hopes that the police will stop those who are still trying to trick the public into joining a trading scheme like this.

Not only that, he also hopes that related parties can pay special attention to the rise of illegal investments to prevent other victims. “So they (victims) hope that there will be a deterrent effect for the perpetrators and the money will be returned,” he said.
